Ahead of this afternoon's Betfair Fighting Fifth Hurdle, Newcastle Racecourse can issue the following update regarding the conditions and forecast for the afternoon.
There is no damage to racecourse buildings, and the track is very much in raceable condition. The Groundstaff have done an excellent job in replacing areas of rail and other elements disturbed by last night's storm. Local roads, including the A1, are open.
We will continue to monitor wind speeds and gusts throughout the afternoon, which are forecast to drop from 13:00 onwards.
